In 2008 while doing some business with the Catalina Island Humane Society I mentioned to Ted Butland
that we had a project that was so out of control cost wise that we could not afford to build it. The
architect’s estimate was $25,000,000 plus architecture. I did not know at that time that Ted was a
builder. Ted said “let me take a look at the project”. The result was that E. H. Butland Corp. gave us a
price for the architecture, engineering, permits and construction. They cut the architectural and
engineering fees by $1,100,000 (50%). They reduced the construction from $25,000,000 to$ 13,495,000
with an 18 month schedule. The project was closed out at $13,011,392 ($483,608 under run) and was
completed in 16 months. This included over $300,000 in upgrades we made during the course of the
project. We are very pleased with E.H. Butland Corp. and can’t speak highly enough about them. We
never had any major disagreements or confrontations and everything went together seamlessly. They
worked with the City very well and overcame many obstacles in City Planning and the Building
Department. We are confident in recommending E.H. Butland Corp. to you as we are very, very pleased.
The construction process was painless and the quality of the construction is first class. Butland also has
been prompt in taking care of warranty issues as well. We recommend them highly.
